The homeless child was shaking so badly he could barely breathe, but he forced the words out.
He explained that weeks earlier, while sleeping outside the estate wall, he had heard the rich man’s wife arguing with a doctor near the open garden window.
She had said she could not let the boy recover, because if he ever walked again, he would remember what really happened the night of the accident.
The rich man felt the blood drain from his face.
He had spent months blaming fate.
But now, for the first time, he understood the accident may not have been an accident at all.
The homeless child reached into his pocket and pulled out a small silver bracelet.
He said he found it beneath the window that same night. It belonged to the rich man’s wife.
The rich man turned toward the house in horror.
And just then, behind him, his son’s voice broke through the silence.
Weak. Shaking. Unbelievable.
“Dad…”
The rich man spun around.
His son was gripping the wheelchair, trying to rise.
And for the first time since the accident…
he was standing.
