“The Test”

PART 1

The director laughed louder than anyone.

“Security should’ve stopped him at the door.”

The homeless boy stood at the whiteboard, writing equations with quiet focus.

Mockery filled the room.

“Your calculations are wrong,” the director said, clapping slowly.

The boy stopped writing.

Turned around.

And said something no one expected:

“I know.”

The room froze.

The director smirked. “So you admit it?”

The boy nodded.

“Yes. I wrote them wrong on purpose.”

Silence.

The director frowned.

“Why?”

The boy looked directly at him.

“To see if you’d notice.”

The employees exchanged confused glances.

The director stepped closer to the board.

Studied it.

Sweat forming at his temple.

Because the mistake wasn’t in the math.

It was in the company’s financial projection model.

And only someone who built the original system would recognize it.

The boy reached into his torn jacket pocket…

And pulled out an old ID badge.

“You… disappeared.”

“No,” the boy replied quietly. “You outsourced my department.”

The cost-cutting decision that made headlines.

The one that saved money short-term.

And destroyed the long-term system accuracy.

The boy had lost everything.

His apartment. His stability. His dignity.

But he never lost his mind.

“I came back,” he said softly, “because your model is about to collapse.”

No one laughed now.

The director slowly removed his suit jacket.

And for the first time in that office…

He asked for help.
