Part 2: The entire churchyard fell silent.

Only the wind could be heard.

The priest looked up sharply at the widow.
Her face had gone white.

Too late.

He opened the letter.

Inside was a single folded page, aged at the edges, written in the dead man’s trembling hand.

The priest read the first line… and nearly dropped it.

“If this letter is being opened at my funeral, it means I was too late to tell the truth.”

A murmur spread through the mourners.

The grieving woman pressed a hand over her mouth, already trembling.

The widow stepped forward.

“Give me that,” she snapped.

But the priest pulled it back and kept reading.

“The woman standing before my coffin was supposed to become my wife years ago. She did not abandon me. She was taken away before our wedding, and I was told she had run.”

The crowd erupted in whispers.

The grieving woman began to cry.

The widow’s voice shook.

“That’s impossible.”

The priest kept reading, his face growing darker with every word.

“The one who lied to me was the woman I married instead.”

A gasp tore through the funeral.

Umbrellas shifted.
Phones rose higher.

The widow stumbled backward.

The grieving woman stared at her in shock.

Then the priest read the line that shattered everything:

“She showed me proof only yesterday. The child I was told died before birth… is alive. And the widow knows where.”

The crowd exploded.

The widow’s knees nearly gave out.

The grieving woman stepped closer, tears pouring down her face.

“You told him my baby was dead?”

The widow tried to speak, but no words came.

Then an elderly woman from the back of the mourners suddenly cried out,

“I knew that seal… I saw her leave the church that night drugged and half-conscious!”

Total silence crashed over the funeral.

The priest lowered the letter slowly.

The grieving woman looked at the coffin, then back at the widow with horror and rage.

“He called me here to forgive him,” she whispered.
“But he called me too late.”

Then she pointed at the widow and said the line that left everyone frozen:

“Take me to my child… or he won’t be the only one buried today.”
