The elderly woman felt a cold wave run through her body when the little girl said something no stranger should ever know.

— “My mommy said you paid her to disappear.”

The diamond on her finger suddenly felt heavy.

— “That’s absurd,” she snapped, but her composure was slipping.

The man behind them leaned closer, tension thick in the air.

The girl’s voice was calm. Too calm.

— “She said the money came with one condition… that she never contact you again.”

The woman’s chest tightened painfully.

The girl looked up at her.
