Part 2: The gym did not make a sound.

Not a weight dropped.
Not a rope moved.
Not a single person dared step between them.

The shirtless man stared at her, all arrogance gone now.

“What are you talking about?” he asked.

But his voice had changed.

Smaller.
Tighter.
Afraid.

The woman stepped closer, water still dripping from her sleeves.

“My brother didn’t die in combat,” she said. “He died on a training cliff in Norway. Official report said he slipped.”

She lifted the second dog tag again.

“He sent this to me three days before he died.”

The man’s breathing changed instantly.

Because he already knew what was coming.

The woman pulled a folded plastic-wrapped note from inside her soaked shirt — protected all this time under the fabric.

The entire room watched as she opened it with steady fingers.

“When I read this the first time,” she said quietly, “I thought he was paranoid. Angry. Maybe broken.”

Her eyes locked on his.

“But then I saw you today.”

She handed the note to the old sergeant.

His hands shook as he read it.

Then his face went white.

One sentence.

That was all it took.

“If anything happens to me, don’t let Mason touch my sister.”

The shirtless man stumbled back.

Because Mason was his name.

A curse spread through the room in a whisper.

Someone near the heavy bags muttered, “No…”

The woman took one more step toward him.

“You didn’t pour water on a random woman in a gym,” she said. “You poured water on the only witness your victim warned about.”

Mason’s chest rose and fell harder now.

“I didn’t kill him,” he snapped.

But it came too late.

Too fast.

Too desperate.

The sergeant was already reaching for his phone.

And the woman was not even looking at Mason anymore.

She was looking at the scar on his wrist — the same scar her brother described in the final page of his journal.

Then she said the one sentence that broke him in front of everyone:

“My brother wrote that you smiled right after he begged you to help him.”
