The photograph showed a young woman holding a newborn baby.
On the back were three words:
He deserves truth.
The man’s wife covered her mouth, but it was too late.
The older woman looked at her son with tears in her eyes.
“She came here once,” she said. “With your child in her arms. Someone told security to remove her before I could reach the door.”
The man turned slowly toward his wife.
Her silence answered everything.
For twenty years, he had believed love had betrayed him.
But love had only been kept outside.
The old woman touched the empty chair.
“I left this seat for your daughter,” she whispered. “Because one day, she will sit here.”
Then the restaurant doors opened.
A young woman stood there holding the same photograph in her hand.
And for the first time, the empty chair was not empty anymore.
