🎬 PART 2: «The Money His Mother Hid»

The teller slowly looked from the money to the boy’s face.

“What man?”

The boy tightened his fingers around the zipper.

“The one in the black car.”

The bank lobby seemed to grow quieter.

A security guard near the entrance stopped moving.

The teller lowered her voice.

“Where is your mother?”

The boy looked down.

“At home. She’s sick. She told me if she didn’t wake up, I should bring this here.”

The teller’s face changed.

This was no longer strange.

It was dangerous.

She gently reached into the bag and saw a folded envelope sitting between the cash stacks.

On it was written one word.

Please.

The boy whispered, “She said the money isn’t ours.”

The teller opened the envelope with shaking hands.

Inside was a photo of a woman standing beside a wealthy man, both looking terrified.

And behind them, half-hidden in the picture, was the bank’s own chairman.

The teller covered her mouth.

The boy looked up at her.

“My mom said he stole it from people. She cleaned his office. She found the bag.”

The security guard stepped closer.

“Miss, should I call someone?”

The teller looked toward the glass offices upstairs.

The chairman was standing behind the railing, staring down at them.

His face was pale.

The boy noticed him too.

His voice dropped to a whisper.

“That’s him.”

The teller quickly pulled the boy behind the counter.

The chairman began walking down the stairs.

The boy clutched her sleeve.

“Please don’t give me back.”

The teller looked at the child, then at the bag of money, then at the man coming toward them with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.

She pressed the silent alarm under the counter.

Then she knelt beside the boy and whispered, “Your mom was right to send you here.”

His eyes filled.

“Will she be okay?”

The teller looked at the envelope again.

Then at the police lights beginning to flash outside the bank windows.

“She saved a lot of people,” she said softly. “Now we save her.”
