PART 2: “The Son She Pretended Never Existed”

“My father kept it until the day he vanished from your life,” the waiter said.

The woman covered her mouth.

Her husband stood slowly. “Who is he?”

The waiter looked at him, then back at her.

“I’m the reason she left him.”

The restaurant became silent.

Years ago, she had been engaged to a kind young man with no money and too much hope. Her family forced her into a richer life, and she chose comfort over courage.

But before she left, she had a son.

A son she never held.

A son she never came back for.

The waiter took a small photograph from his pocket and placed it beside the ring.

“My father never hated you,” he said. “He just wanted me to know your face.”

The woman reached for his hand, crying.

But he stepped back.

“I didn’t come for revenge,” he whispered. “I came to return the lie.”
